A Christmas Reflection on Love and Energy

Choosing Love in a Noisy World This Christmas
At this time of year, we’re encouraged to slow down. To gather. To reflect.
And yet, if you glance at the world beyond your front door or your phone screen, it can feel anything but peaceful.
The modern world often appears frantic, blinkered, fuelled by greed, outrage and division. Everyone seems to be shouting. Everyone seems to be certain they’re right. And far too often, kindness and understanding are drowned out by noise designed to provoke, provoke, provoke.
But here’s the truth we sometimes forget:
we don’t have to be pulled into that way of living anymore.
Choosing to live with love, patience and understanding does not mean accepting hate, cruelty or bad behaviour. It means recognising that we still have agency especially over how we respond to the challenges we encounter.
We may not control the world, but we always control our inner world.
Where Negative Energy Really Gets Its Power
So much of what feels dark or overwhelming today relies on one thing to survive: our attention.
Anger feeds on reaction.
Division feeds on engagement.
Hostility needs an audience.
Without that constant supply of emotional energy, these forces lose their momentum. They can shout, posture and make themselves visible but without our participation, they struggle to have any real meaning or impact.
Like a fire without fuel, they don’t rage. They flicker, then fade.
When we disengage consciously, we’re not ignoring reality. We’re choosing not to let it shape us.
Raising Your Focus, Not Building Walls
Choosing a higher emotional focus isn’t about being superior or pretending everything is fine. It’s about deciding where your energy belongs.
Instead of fighting everything that feels wrong, you gently redirect your attention much like pruning a plant so that healthy growth can flourish.
You don’t wage war on dead branches.
You don’t argue with decay.
You simply remove what no longer serves growth.
And then you invest your time, care and presence into the people who do nourish your life the ones who bring warmth, humour, honesty and love into your world.
Those connections matter.
They’re real.
They’re where true meaning lives.
The rest? Let them remain in their own circles, echoing the same frustrations back and forth. That’s their journey it doesn’t have to be yours.
A Seasonal Pause for Understanding
Christmas has a quiet way of highlighting how easily misunderstandings arise often not through words spoken, but through assumptions made.
When life feels pressured or emotionally charged, it’s natural to fill in the gaps ourselves to believe we know what others think, mean or intend based on limited information, labels, or our own internal state.
This season offers a chance to pause before doing that.
A few gentle reminders worth carrying into the new year:
-
We rarely know someone’s intentions unless they share them openly.
-
People are always more layered and complex than our first impressions suggest.
-
Our interpretations are often shaped by our own emotions in that moment.
-
Curiosity invites understanding; assumptions quietly close the door.
Choosing openness over judgement doesn’t make us naïve. It helps us stay grounded, calm and connected especially during emotionally charged times of year.
Christmas Is Still About Connection
At its heart, Christmas isn’t about perfection, ideology or winning arguments.
It’s about connection. Warmth. Presence. Shared moments.
It’s about sitting beside people who matter whether that’s family, friends, partners, or even just yourself and remembering that peace doesn’t arrive through force.
It arrives through choice.
So this season, choose what you give your energy to.
Choose love without weakness.
Understanding without surrender.
Boundaries without bitterness.
And above all, choose the people and moments that make life feel lighter, warmer and more real.
We wish you peace, clarity and a very Merry Christmas.
